Springtime means baseball for my daughter and soccer for my boy. Going to watch my kids play sports is one of my favorite times, I absolutely love watching them with their teammates and making new friends. I also love talking and getting to know the other parents, it takes me longer than others and often it’s my husband that starts those encounters but once I’m in I’m in.
I’m his little introvert and he knows that he sees me go to gatherings and birthdays and I disappear into a different room for a few minutes because too many people is harder for me, he knows that look of when I am done and I’m ready to leave. He knows all my social cues that other people probably wouldn’t pick up on, but sometimes he knows me better than I know myself. I have gotten better at going out, and I don’t fear it as much as I did before, especially when he is with me.

This sports season is a little bit different, both kids are playing on new teams, and I don’t know most of the parents and Ray isn’t able to make it to all the games as there are often games during the day. So, I head out with my girl, it’s always her games during the day, and face my fear of talking to people. Some people might not understand how this is a fear, but it truly is and those who also have this fear know what I am talking about.
It's the little wins that count and that keep me going and continuing to grow. When you have those little wins it’s so important to recognize them as something that you have accomplished, even if people tell you that it isn’t that big of a deal because for you it is, and you need to celebrate that.
You are your biggest cheerleader, celebrate those little wins, celebrate going out of your comfort zone, celebrate the small steps you accomplish towards your bigger goals. Every single one of those accomplishments is a victory for you to celebrate and take pride in because focusing on the positives in life makes the negatives less and that is what we need in life.

What victories are you celebrating this week?
Anyone can be a cheerleader,
Chantal M.
